====== AllStar ====== AllStar is a digital linking network used to connect repeaters or nodes over the Internet to other repeaters or nodes. According to the AllStar website: The AllStar Link network consists of a number of large (and small) individuals and groups who provide efficient, large-area communications to the Amateur Radio public in their respective local areas. This is done by providing a local VHF or UHF repeater system controlled by a Linux-based computer system running the open-source Asterisk PBX telephone switch platform along with the app_rpt repeater/remote base controller/linking software module (which is included in the distribution of Asterisk) connected to a high-speed (broadband, such as Cable Modem or DSL) Internet connection. The **Linux/Asterisk PBX** system, coupled with the **app_rpt** module, serves as a powerful repeater and remote base controller. It enables the linking of these repeater and remote base "nodes" with other nodes worldwide using the **IAX2 Voice Over IP protocol**. === Unique Features of AllStar ===. * **Separate Nodes**: Unlike other repeater technologies, AllStar separates repeaters and remote-base nodes. They are implemented as completely separate and independent nodes, even if they are co-located or on the same computer system. This independence adds significant flexibility. * **Designed for Infrastructure**: Unlike other VOIP technologies such as EchoLink or IRLP, AllStar is designed to integrate directly into the infrastructure of radio systems, rather than being an end-to-end protocol. * **Versatile Controller**: All nodes are either repeater controllers or remote-base controllers, replacing traditional controllers. AllStar provides full-duplex linking, remote control, autopatch, and VOIP capabilities. AllStar Link is an open-source initiative that makes this advanced technology accessible to amateur radio operators worldwide. It aims to enhance local repeater systems by offering advanced functionality and flexibility. ==== AllStar on RepeaterBook ==== Repeaters with AllStar capability can be marked on RepeaterBook. The node number can be assigned to the repeater, which is displayed on the repeater's detail page. Real-time status updates are scraped from stats.allstarlink.org and displayed for the corresponding node. === Related Links === * RepeaterBook AllStar Directory * AllStar Link Official Website * AllStar Link Node List * About AllStar Link * Getting Started with AllStar Link
