A **repeater sponsor** is the group or individual responsible for producing, maintaining, and overseeing a repeater. The sponsor is commonly referred to as the **repeater owner**.

=== Relationship to the Repeater Trustee ===
Under **FCC Part 97** rules:
  * The sponsor may or may not serve as the **trustee** of the repeater.  
  * A trustee is a designated control operator responsible for ensuring the repeater complies with regulations.  
  * In some cases, the trustee may not own the repeater but acts as its regulatory representative.
