Propagation Reports

Propagation reports allow users to share their experiences with a repeater's coverage, helping others understand where the repeater might be usable. While these reports are not scientific analyses, they provide valuable insights. Users should note that results are subjective, as individual radios and antennas vary in performance. One user's experience may differ from another's, but the reports still offer a general understanding of a repeater's coverage.

What Data is Collected?

Propagation reports collect the following data:

  1. Antenna Type: Mobile, HT, Base
  2. S-Meter Reading: The signal strength as displayed on the user's radio

How to Add a Propagation Report

1. Navigate to the repeater's Details page on RepeaterBook. 2. Select Map Location from the menu. A new window will open, displaying a map with the repeater's location. If there are existing propagation reports, they will be shown on the map. 3. Click the “Add a Propagation Report” link. A new page will open. 4. On the Propagation Report page:

  1. Click anywhere on the map to select coordinates for the report.
  2. Select the type of antenna connected to your radio.
  3. Enter the S-Meter reading from your radio.

Once the propagation report is submitted:

  1. The repeater's operational status is automatically set to “on-air”.
  2. The user is credited for submitting the report.

Benefits of Propagation Reports

Although subjective, propagation reports can:

  1. Provide a general understanding of a repeater's coverage.
  2. Help users determine which repeaters may work for their location or equipment.
  3. Encourage community participation in maintaining up-to-date repeater information.

Propagation reports are an excellent way for amateur radio users to collaborate and share knowledge about repeater usability.
