Net Proximity Search
The Net Proximity Search tool on RepeaterBook.com allows users to find amateur radio nets occurring on repeaters within a defined radius of a selected location and timeframe. This is particularly helpful for operators who wish to participate in on-air nets while traveling or at a temporary location.
This feature is only available to RepeaterBook Plus subscribers.
What It Does
This tool searches for active nets based on your location, selected day and time, and filters like band and mode. It queries both nearby repeaters and wide-area repeaters known to provide coverage to your area.
How It Works
1. Choose Your Location Enter a city, address, or grid square. The system uses Google Maps Geocoding to convert this to GPS coordinates.
2. Select a Date and Time Range Choose the day you are searching for nets and set the start and end time window.
3. Select Bands Choose which bands (e.g., 2m, 70cm) you want to filter for. Up to four bands can be selected.
4. Select Modes Choose one or two repeater modes, such as FM, DMR, D-Star, P25, etc.
5. Submit Search Once submitted, the tool locates repeaters with scheduled nets matching your filters and returns results in a table and on a map.
6. Primary and Secondary Radius Search The system first looks for repeaters within 30 miles. It then includes additional wide-area repeaters within 75 miles if their published coverage overlaps your area.
8. Smart Net Filtering Nets are filtered to only include:
- Those on the same day of the week you selected.
- Those within the start/end time window. Omitting the time searches the entire day.
- If specified, those occurring on a specific week (e.g., first Sunday).
- Nets skipped on the selected week (via a “skip week” flag) are excluded.
9. Distance and Info Display Results include repeater frequency, location, access details, distance, and the net’s name, time, type, and notes.
Advanced Filtering (Optional)
- Day Occurrence: Nets marked for only the 1st/2nd/etc. Sunday of the month are matched to the calendar week of your selected date.
- Skip Weeks: Nets with skipped weeks (e.g., 3rd Sunday) will not show if your query falls on that skipped week.
- Visitor Indicator: If a net welcomes visitors, this is shown in the results.
Tips
- Use today's date (default) to see what nets are active now or tonight.
- Use band/mode filtering to find only relevant nets.
- Nets are sorted by distance from your location.
Notes
- All repeaters returned are on-air and open.
- Nets must be scheduled and assigned to the repeater in the database.
- The system does not display expired or inactive nets.
Known Limitations
- RF propagation is not simulated; coverage is based on published radius data.
- Results may vary in fringe or mountainous regions where signal paths are unpredictable.
