(1 of 2) ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH 8PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR WESTERN NM AS WELL AS THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY AND THE SANDIA AND MANZANO MOUNTAINS DUE TO STRONG WINDS, VERY LOW HUMIDITY AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .Critical fire weather conditions continue this afternoon across western and portions of central New Mexico. Strong west to southwest winds will continue to increase in advance of an approaching disturbance and surface winds may gust near 50 mph during the late afternoon and early evening hours. Strong winds and low relative humidity values are also expected across eastern New Mexico, however recent rainfall and ongoing greenup will mitigate the critical fire weather concerns. * AREA AND TIMING...Northwest Plateau (Zone 101), West Central Mountains (Zone 105), Middle Rio Grande Valley (Zone 106), West Central Basin and Range (Zone 109), and the Sandia and Manzano Mountains (Zone 124) until 8 PM MDT today. * 20 FOOT WINDS...West to southwest 25 to 35 mph with occasional gusts to 50 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...6 to 12 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.. (2 of 2) ...CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS EXPECTED ON MONDAY... Persistent and deep southwest flow over the Desert Southwest will bring above normal temperatures, very dry to exceptionally dry air, and breezy conditions through the week. Winds will be strongest on todday. This will combine with dry fuels to create critical fire conditions over much of southwest and south- central New Mexico. * AFFECTED AREA...Southwest and South-central New Mexico, including the Lincoln and Gila National Forest. * WIND...West to Southwest Winds 15 to 25 MPH gusting to 40 MPH. * HUMIDITY...5 to 8 Percent, 8 to 12 percent above 7500 feet. * EXPERIMENTAL RFTI...4 to 6 Near Critical to Critical. * IMPACTS...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
